Quick snippets on what’s ahead at Terra Linda!
Since the beginning of the school year, the volunteers in the Makerspace room have enjoyed witnessing and supporting the joy we see when the students have an idea for a project and they successfully create it. Much of their creations have been with cardboard. The photo above is evidence of that as their cardboard projects are kept on the side to improve on when they visit back. With its popularity as the top choice of material use, our stock of cardboard is running low. We request donations for cardboard at any size and quantity to continue the fun through to the end of the school year. Along with that, any supporting items that compliment with cardboard-building will be well-appreciated:
Our Terra Linda Makerspace Wishlist items are now updated, so please consider reviewing the list. Please drop items off at the Terra Linda office and mention they are for the Makerspace room. A big thanks to the recent donors of craft supplies for the Makerspace room. On this current Makerspace activity of building squishy circuits, we want to thank a surge of parents/ community members who donated their time either by making homemade conductive playdough or participating in the classroom. Interested in helping the kids make their creations with Terra Linda Technology Educator, Rishika Batheja? Or have ideas to share for future activities? Please contact Maria Schaeffer at makerspace@terralindaptc.org
Our annual STEAM Night is coming up on April 17th. ALL students K – 5 will be encouraged to do a Science Project and/or an Art project. Regardless of student participation, All Terra Linda families are invited to come celebrate and discover the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) together. The evening will include student Science Fair project displays, OMSI presentations, an Usborne Books & More Book Fair, and hands-on inquiry stations.
OUR FEBRUARY CHECK DAY IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21st.
Great job in January! We hope your world traveler will see their name on our Passport bulletin board as a “Frequent Flyer” (all 5 levels complete) or “First Class” (all 5 levels AND Special Itinerary), but most of all, we’d love for all kids to know the five countries in level 1! Please help us accomplish this goal!

January 30th…
What does it all mean? A nonsensical collection of random events put together after 10 minutes of googling “January 30th”? Perhaps. Or perhaps this is the key to finally unlocking the secret to [REDACTED].
Shocking, right? But it’s better to know the truth.
Would you like to get more out of the blast? Do you have suggestions? Please contact Nicholas at communication@terralindaptc.org with any feedback.
Quick snippets on what’s ahead at Terra Linda!
Our beloved Terra Linda Elementary School has been an integral part of the community for more than 40 years. This year we’ve launched a capital improvement project to benefit our students and school community. This summer, we plan to renovate our library to make it a future-ready, creative, and flexible space. We will be hosting an auction to complete our fundraising efforts for the Terra Linda Library. This event will include cocktails, dinner, a fabulous silent and live auction, and entertainment. We hope to see you there!
To learn more and get involved, please contact Kelly Olson at TerraLindaFundraising@gmail.com
Happy New Year from the volunteers of the Makerspace room! Students continue to utilize a variety of materials in the room and they have made recent requests to replenish our stock items. Many of these items are everyday items and we highly encourage donations from the community first so that we can apply our limited budget of funds towards new or added STEM-related equipment for future projects. Our Terra Linda Makerspace Wishlist items have been updated, so please consider reviewing the list. Donations of any size or quantity will be appreciated. Please drop items off at the Terra Linda office and mention they are for the Makerspace room. In our upcoming Makerspace activity, science and art will be creatively intermingled with an electric playdough project! With the use of conductive playdough, molding clay, LED lights, wires, and batteries, Terra Linda students will not only have fun sculpting but also learn terms such as open, closed, short circuit, and polarity! Items for this activity are in the Wishlist link above. Interested in helping the kids make their creations with Terra Linda Technology Educator, Rishika Batheja? Or have ideas to share for future activities? Please contact Maria Schaeffer at makerspace@terralindaptc.org

Want to play along with the kids? We are looking for volunteers to offer support and guidance in the Makerspace room during these sessions with the Technology teacher. Activities in future will involve craft activities as well. Therefore, volunteers are welcome to develop ideas and participate. You read the whole blast! You get a cookie. Wait, what’s that? You only skimmed it?! Then you have only earned one of these “healthy” cookies. They’re really great…if you like coconut…and cardboard. 🙂
Would you like to get more out of the blast? Do you have suggestions? Please contact Nicholas at communication@terralindaptc.org with any feedback.
Upcoming Events
All new volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend our annual Volunteer Orientation at school on Tuesday, 9/17 from 6:00 – 6:30 PM, just prior to our September PTC meeting at 6:30 that evening. We will be reviewing the Volunteer Guidelines and taking a tour of the school. For those unable to attend, the guidelines and map will be sent out following the training.
This year Work Party will be meeting on Tuesday mornings at 9AM. The teachers give us projects (making copies, cutting things out, etc…) to work on in the lobby. Bring your own coffee, chat with other parents, and help all at the same time. Come weekly, every other week, monthly – whatever your schedule allows. Contact Amy Waugh at awaugh@comcast.net for more information or just meet us there.
Our first dining for dollars event is Monday, September 23rd at CHIPOTLE on Cornell! If you mention Terra Linda when you order between 4-8 pm, 33% of your purchase will be donated back to the school! Take a night off of making dinner, and spread the word to family and friends! See this FLYER for more details. (Gift card purchases are not eligible for donation.) Contact beckyseppala@gmail.com with any questions.
CHECK DAY IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th!
We hope your world traveler will see their name on our Passport bulletin board as a “Frequent Flyer” (all 5 levels complete) or “First Class” (all 5 levels AND Special Itinerary). Need a map? Jog-A-Thon

Many classes are still in need of Classroom Reps and Party Parents as well as classroom and field trip volunteers. See information below.
Classroom Representative:
The Classroom Representative is responsible for working with the teacher to determine current and future volunteer needs. Once needs are established, they will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule shifts in the volunteer system. They help to ensure parents know they need to sign up in the volunteer system and go through the background check to be eligible to volunteer in the classroom and help on field trips. There is only one classroom representative for each classroom.
Party Parent:
The Party Parent is responsible for coordinating the classroom parties. There are three per year (Halloween, Valentine’s Day and End-of-Year) There is a budget set for these parties.
Party Helper:
Party Helpers work with the Party Parent to prepare for the parties and help on the day of the party.
Field Trip:
Help during future class field trips. Those signed up for field trips will be contacted before each event with further information.
Note: Please go to opportunities and find your child’s teacher to sign up. Signing up for a Classroom Representative or Party Parent position only indicates your interest in the position. We will reach out to those that have expressed interest once they have been approved by the teacher.
If you have any questions, please contact Jaime McCarl at volunteers@terralindaptc.org.
Note: we are looking for some new Committee Chairs for this year, please respond if you are interested in any of the positions below!

Join us on Saturday, June 29th for the 2nd Annual Sam Day 5K! The 5K run/walk will begin and end at Sunset High School in Cedar Mill, Oregon. As you leave the Sunset High School campus and weave through Sam’s neighborhood, Terra Linda, you’ll be cheered on and encouraged by dozens of spectators, sounds, music and messages along the way. Kids with cancer want to live well and the Sam Day 5K is creating that opportunity and setting the example!
After the race you will enjoy a post run party with music, awards and of course, some treats! The 5K route is on pavement and weaves through closed neighborhood streets and pathways.
The Kids 1K Fun Run will be held entirely on the High School campus.

To date, we know we need one new Committee Chair for next year:
Please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteers@terralindaptc.org if you have any interest in the Committee Chair positions, or helping with something else.
Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
