Quick snippets on what’s ahead at Terra Linda!
From the volunteers of the Makerspace room, we wish you all a wonderful holiday season! We thank you to those who have donated materials and items so far. Your donations are put to great use as teachers are using the space quite a bit with students.
Please continue to review our Terra Linda Makerspace Wishlist. We hope to see a lot of use of the materials in 2020! Donations of any size or quantity will be appreciated. Please drop items off at the Terra Linda office and mention they are for the Makerspace room.
Our tech toy of the month is Dash. It is a robotic toy that can be programmed to move, talk, and play sounds. Please ask you child if they have been enjoying the robot so far.

This year Work Party will be meeting on Tuesday mornings at 9AM. The teachers give us projects (making copies, cutting things out, etc…) to work on in the lobby. Bring your own coffee, chat with other parents, and help all at the same time. Come weekly, every other week, monthly – whatever your schedule allows. Contact Alisha Holland at hollandalisha@rocketmail.com or Amy Waugh at awaugh@comcast.net for more information or just meet us there.
We raised $415 at the Chipotle dining event! That’s A LOT of burritos y’all! Thank you to everyone who helped make it a success!
Contact beckyseppala@gmail.com with any questions.
Did you know the PTC Staff Appreciation committee plans at least one event for our wonderful staff every month? Last month’s event was a welcome breakfast as well as a treat on the first day of school. Next month, a break room snack/drink stock-up is planned. These events are partially funded by the PTC and partially funded by our generous parents. If you would like to receive emails with needs for future events, please email Jennifer Collett at jenn.collett@gmail.com to be added to the request distribution list.
Terra Linda Running Club is off and running for the fifth year!
Terra Linda Running Club is PTC sponsored and volunteer organized. Every student is a member even though participation is optional. TLRC takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch recess. We have a group of committed volunteers that keep track of laps, hand out prizes, and cheer on runners!
Can my child run extra?
YES! This year we are encouraging every student to track the laps they run during P.E., brain breaks with their teacher, and laps during other recesses. Teachers will have access to student cards and can record laps using an app. We are also going to count miles from any race that students do outside of school!
We aren’t going to track a few things like fitbit counters, sports practice laps, or hikes on the weekends. We really want to encourage kids to choose to run on OUR track and not get distracted with too many other activities.
Prizes?!
We have a reward system for every runner! When students complete their first mile they are awarded a wristband. They then receive a chain and a token at 5k (3 miles) and tokens at other milestones! We also give out a special token once a month to every participant. Look for pumpkins in October! And for our kids that really go the distance we have a ribbon at a Half Marathon (13 miles) and a pair of socks and a medal at a marathon (26 miles).
Volunteers Needed!
We always need volunteers for Running Club. The best time to volunteer is from 10:45-11:15 during the kindergarten and first grade recess. And don’t worry- we won’t make you run! Instead you can hand out cards to runners, pass out prizes, and scan cards.
Questions? Contact Kelly Olson: kellyaolson@gmail.com
The Terra Makerspace room was in use this month! Much of the kids this past cycle played with Ozobots during Technology. What are ozobots?
They are tiny toy robots that move and switch direction based upon colored lines drawn on a piece of paper. The kids had a wonderful time creating their own their world where some kids created mazes, made tracks shaped like hearts, and paths in which the bots were goalies at a hockey game!
Consumables donated by parents and equipment bought by the PTC made it possible. We found during this unit that much of our markers dried out from last year’s use. We hope to replenish our current stock and continue the fun during this school year.
We ask that parents, relatives, close family friends help support our TerraLinda Makerspace room to thrive. Below is a list of items that we could use more of and we will identify any more throughout the school year. Please go ahead and send them to the Terra Linda Office and identify them as the
Makerspace donations.
If you have any questions, or want to help volunteer in the Makerspace room, please sign up as a Tera Linda volunteer and contact Maria Schaeffer, Makerspace Volunteer Coordinator at the4schaeffers@gmail.com.

Just in case you missed the blast of emails and social posts, here are the details for Back To School Night on Thursday, August 29. This is copied directly from the school email that was sent to all families.
Hello Terra Linda Families,
We are excited to see everyone tonight for Meet Your Teacher, Supply Drop Off & Back to School Picnic!
Here are the Pizza Schmizza prices if you will be eating pizza at the Back To School Picnic tonight.
Cheese and pepperoni – $3.50/sliceCombo and gluten free – $4.00/sliceWater, juice and soda will be available for purchase as well.Cash and card will be accepted.
In thinking ahead to next week, we would really appreciate it if you could say goodbye on Tuesday outside our lobby doors rather than walking your student to class. This will give teachers the opportunity to greet their new students and begin building their classroom community right from the beginning. This also helps keep our school safe by allowing all of our staff to focus on our students on the first day.
If you would like to take a picture of your student with their new teacher, tonight is the best opportunity. Bring your cameras!
On Tuesday, as on every day, students can go to the playground, gym, cafeteria, library, or lobby beginning at 8:10. If they have supplies to drop off on Tuesday, they can head to their classroom to drop them off then go to one of these areas. At 8:28, our bell will ring and students will head to class.
We will send additional information to our Kindergarten families regarding plans for their first day of school. Watch your email Wednesday afternoon (September 4th).
If you still have a big bag of recyclable bottles and cans in your garage left over from the holidays or Super Bowl Sunday, don’t forget to take them to Bales Cedar Mill and put them in the Terra Linda bin. Our PTC receives 100% of the deposit amount.
We have a bunch of school activities which need volunteer help.
Please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Rick Collett, at volunteers@terralindaptc.org
Thank you for volunteering!
Our next Passport Club check day will be: February 21st
Did you know the PTC Staff Appreciation committee plans at least one event for our wonderful staff every month? The February event was a Valentine’s spread of baguette, cheese, fruit, fancy drinks, and treats. Next month, a nacho/taco bar lunch is planned. These events are partially funded by the PTC and partially funded by our generous parents. If you would like to receive emails with needs for future events, please email Jennifer Collett at jenn.collett@gmail.com to be added to the request distribution list.

Our winter Scholastic Book Fair continues through Friday, 2/1 at the times below. Online shopping is also available through 2/5 (details below):
Before School: 8:10 am – 8:28 am
Lunch Recess: 10:45 am – 12:30 pm
After School: 3:05pm – 3:30pm
Friday, Before/During Dance: 5:45 pm – 8:00 pm

The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to share your love of reading with your whole class by donating a book to your student’s classroom. Teachers will have chosen books they would like to have in their classroom and set them aside behind the cashier. When purchasing your own books at the fair, you can also chose to contribute additional money, in any amount, that will be used to buy books for the school.
Online shopping for the fair offers an expanded selection of books for all ages. Online shopping runs until 2/5. Any books ordered online can ship to the school for free and we’ll get them to you or you can pay to ship to an address.
The online fair is a great way to get a book that we don’t have at the fair, or one that sold out. Books purchased online still count towards additional books for the school.
NOTE: The site has a School Wish List, however the books listed are a default list from Scholastic and do not reflect what the school would like. Please visit the fair at school if you would like to purchase and donate books to classrooms. Thank you.
Please contact Book Fair Chair, Rick Collett at bookfair@terralindaptc.org with questions.
